Back To School Bash!

Boys, girl, puppehs, kittehs, gerbils and all in between.  It's time for the Annual Blogville Back to School Bash! This is our VERY FIRST hosting evening so we are all rather nervous at our little farm.  Mom isn't exactly a great teacher... but we will take her in paw!  In fact, she can be our Teacher's Assistant and bring us treats and belly rub while WE teach the classes.

We will have the Sillybus put together for Registration no later than Friday.

Weekend in Review

We had a really cool weekend... and actually it is extending through today as well as we are heading to Louisville to visit the Louisville Slugger Museum.

Our weekend started Wednesday night with a trip to Cincinnati to see Incubus and Linkin Park.  It is one of the best concerts I've been to in a while.  I've done my parental duty as Reed was able to sing the words to "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" which was played right before LP took the stage and "Sabotage" which was mashed with Bleed It Out. :D

Friday we went to see our local Single A baseball team the Lexington Legends get beat by the Charleston Riverdogs.  Hey, at least we got to see really great fireworks after the game.

Saturday we made a new doggy friend, a doggy in training to be a therapy dog, at the Farmer's Market.  :) There was also men beating each other with sticks and handkerchiefs while wearing bells around their knee-bobs and listening to the pan flute and lute... aka Renaissance Dancers.

Sunday we rested aka I took a bath which ran the hot water heater out twice, and Newb's found that he was too tired to completely cover himself up so covering his head was good enough.

Hope your weekend was just as fun. :)

Sunday Snort

Try not to laugh.... :)

OK So I Posted Anyway....

Here was my view when I was trying to get ready to leave for Cincinnati yesterday...
Newby sure knows how to turn on the guilty eye, doesn't he??

Wordless Wednesday by Newby

Newby is winking at you, Lily Belle!

Mom and the boy are heading to Cincinnati today to do some shopping and see Linkin Park tonight.  So we might not be posting tomorrow, cause she is old and cannot recover like she used to... we mean, she might be busy tomorrow doing the stuffs she didn't do today!

Newby Smacks!!

Newby does this adorable little smacking sound every time you hand feed him anything... I don't think you can hear it as well as we do when we are shoveling little tasty bits into his mouth... but even if you can't he (and Milo and Dixe) are too cute to pass up a video opportunity when having steak!

Weekend in Review

This weekend was full of fun.... The Expendables II ~ (From Shelle) OMD, Fantastic Movie.. but I'm a blood thirsty wench, so this was right up my alley. First 10 minutes will BLOW YOUR MIND!!

Saturday mom gots her hair cut! :) She loves getting her hair cuts.  Of course she loves going to the dentist, too, so we think she is not only a blood thirsty wench but pretty demented, too.   She forgot to take a picture, but she is going back to get some highlights to blend in the summer highlights with the new "I have not been to the pool in a while" roots this Friday so she will get a picture then.

We went for RIDES!! It was beyond fantastic.  We just went to the bank and back, but honestly it was the best part of the weekend.

Sunday she went to the Woodland Arts Fair.  She got the best beer on the planet and a new pretty bracelet. She also was craving protein (the gym is kicking her butt) so we had steak twice Sunday.  Pretty special day for all of us.  I mean, STEAK! And she SHARED!!! We gots video of Newby... we'll let you sees it tomorrow. SOOOOooo funny.

There you go... Our weekend.

Sunday Snort (ok so it's actually a Sunday Smile)

My 400th Post (Who Knew I Had So Much To Say?!?)

I don't know why 400 is more important than 300 or 250 or 187 to me. I'm pretty sure it was because I opened blogger and it said "399" posts right before I hit "new post".  What can I said, simple girl with simple mind!

But thank you for hanging with me and Newby, Milo and Dixie and all the weird stuffs we get into on our little farm.  We ain't the most exciting folks in Kentucky, I mean we will leave that for the University of Kentucky Football Wildcats. Can't -yawn- get -stretch and yawn- more -yawwwnnnn- exciting -zzzzzz- than -snore- that. -_-   (WVU fan trapped in Central Kentucky... please help me!)

So in honor of my three little troopers who provide the majority of the fodder for this here blog, I'll share with you their prettyful faces. :)

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Corn Bones!!!

Mom and Reed are on this fancy smancy diet thing so there is lots of veggies in the house. Of course we've noticed there are lots of veggies in the house because of the garden, as well. But last night they had one of our most favorite of all veggies in the world, CORN!!!  Best part about them having corn is the corn bones they leave.

Of course we had a little incident last night. Dixie was trying to get her corn bone away from the boys so she could enjoy it in peace... and she took it to momma's sofa.

You can tell from the picture she already knows she is in a whole heap of trouble.

But I'd say that no matter the trouble she was in that she'd do it all again so she could enjoy the corn bone fully.

Cleaning Day

It's cleaning day at my house, and one of the most important areas is the computer desk(s). So in order to get my screen as clean as possible, I use the Dachshund Screen Cleaner.

If your screen could use a little pick-me-up, just maximize and let him do his thing.

Have a great Thursday!!

Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation

I don't live in Florida, but this is too an important piece of legislation not to mention and ask for PAWSitive thoughts to head to the voters today.

The Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation is a Miami based organization fighting for all the voiceless canines targeted by Breed Specific Legislation. Our goal is to remove BSL from Miami Dade County and to continue fighting against similar legislation throughout our country. We believe in enforcing stronger laws that protect all dogs, no matter the breed. As we grow in members, we remain united and vow to win this battle and save the lives of those who love us unconditionally.

They are voting TODAY regarding the removal of the 24 year old ban against Pit Bulls.  Send some good vibes down south today.  Lets save lots of innocent lives!

Weekend in Review

It was very busy at the farm, and beyond, this weekend. Actually a bit too busy for my taste considering the temps are cooler, so my natural desire to hibernate is taking over.

My weekend included:
*traveling to Elizabethtown to work at the Performing Arts Centre for my 27th event... I do videography/vj'ing work in my spare time (and some audio and lighting, too). The venue is gorgeous and the staff amazing.  I wish I lived closer so I could work there more often.
*having car issues again necessitating taking my car in to the service center twice this weekend with a left over issue from last month which had already left my VISA gasping for air. Honestl,y my poor VISA has gone into hiding, so I hope my car issues are finished. -sigh-
*Bone-a-palooza 2 happened, leaving my house a mess of bones and gutted toys (beer bottles and cheetos, too) and me not getting to enjoy the partying.  But considering how my dogs cheat at cards, well, probably for the best I didn't get to enjoy.  But the next day they slept off their bone hangovers and growled if I talked too loud.  They must have had a good time, but they are not sharing.  Apparently what happens on the farm, stays on the farm.
*Reed got his mane trimmed into Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong circa 21st Centry Breakdown and it looks ah-maze-in!  Regrettably now I have to share bathroom space with his array of hair product.
*We went for a celebratory viewing of Bourne Legacy. Mmm, well, celebrating with a good movie was the plan. However it was not good. -sigh-
*Sunday was the most relaxing day of them all. A really good friend, her son, and I had a little 'sneak-away Sunday' breakfast at Shakespeare and Company. S&C is a cute little cafe right across from the Lexington Opera House. We ate a full English Breakfast and people watched.
*Sunday night ended with Subway and Total Recall at the Drive-in.

Today I'd like to be resting up from our weekend, but, instead I was up with the sun and getting ready for work. The week has started, but I cannot wait for NEXT weekend and what memories we make then.

Sunday Snort: What Dachshunds Do Whilst Their Owners Are Out

I'm not sure if this is what happened at MY house this weekend, but I'm pretty sure from the empty bottles and bags of Cheetos lying around they must have been up to something.

Enjoy your Sunday Snort (Think they have taken the audio from the video... at one time it was "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. Probably some sort of copyright issue... you get the idea though!

Funny Dachshunds! Doxies Got Snacks Rap Song

By the time you read this, Mom will have packed her laptop (most important), all her paper work, and some clothes and headed off to do her 'technical direction' gig this weekend. So in honor of how much we misses her already, we are gonna postie this song. It's just to remind hers why she loves us to begin with. BTW: Card and Board Game Night, our house, tonight 6:30, BYOBACASCANL (Bring Your Own Beer and Cheetos and Squirrel Casserole and No Leashes)!! We will be back Sunday, or whenever our Cheetos hangover is gone.

Insert Unhappy Faces Here

You know what happened after our postie yesterday? You know, when we designated the new kid, Newby, to be the official spokesdog for our "you need to stop working and play with us" cause?

No... no treats.

No... no extra walkie time.

No... no bits of yummy table stuffs.

You know what she took time away from work to do?

Yup... she gave us a bath.

Next time? Newby ISN'T the SpokesDog.

Digital Undergound "Humpty Dance"

This is for Miss Lily and Miss Muffin... especially Miss Muffin....

Uh, Mom??

Think that maybe you might finish up what you are working on if I press this button right here? Cause there are new bunnies in the back yard, and my tummy is a little rumbly, and Dixie has bogarted all of the bones, and there is nothing on TV, and you've been sitting in this same position for like 87 days.

This is Mom....

She is working very hard for her show this weekend... :(  We even have to remind her to feed us and give us belly rubs.  We don't like her work at times. :(

Can we come crash at your house til Sunday?
Milo, Dixie and Newby

A Little Sniff Time, On the Farm

Mom is in Elizabethtown doing her little 'side job' this weekend. We won't get as much sniff time as we would like through next weekend. :( Hope your weekend is fantastic. Talk to you all Monday!!

So... I'm a Whovian. I'm Not Alone Am I?

Early this morning the Trailer for Doctor Who Series 7  was released... you know, if you go by the new series numbering.

I am having a brain-gasm!!!! The Daleks are back and there are 87 million of them. There are baby Weeping Angels... I guess they'd be called Sobbing Cherubs? Oh!! And Dinosaurs! Cleopatra!

August is the best month EV-AH! First we get a little Shark Week action on Discovery to help bridge the weeks until Doctor Who returns 8/25.

So don't bother me Saturday evenings starting 8/25. There can be no plans, no events, no catastrophes which would or could outweigh the importance of following the Doctor Who story arch and rooting through all the time travel paradigms and possible paradoxes.

If you are a Whovian, you understand.  If not... well, EXTERMINATE!!!

A New Award!

Back at the beginning of July, Miss Nola the Magnificent, gave me a great award.

Here are the rules of this award:

*Include the awards logo in a post or on your blog
*Share the love and link the person who awarded you
*Tell us 7 facts about yourself
*Nominate 7 other fabulous bloggers
*Link your nominees to your post and leave them a comment on their blog, letting them know they've won!

As this is kinda a 'girly' award as Milo said, Dixie has agreed to give facts about herself!
  1. I never will walk in front of you. Mom believes I was abused by kickings and stuff like that so, I always walk behind my owners.
  2. I LOVE veggies and fruits.  I don't beg for beef or pork, but if you have an apple I will be all up in your grill to get some!
  3. I am a groomer. I love grooming anyone who will let me groom them. I especially love grooming faces. :)
  4. I am sneaky. I will bark and cause a fuss so I can steal the boys food or bones when they run off to see what I'm barking about.
  5. I love the outside.  I would prefer to stay outside all day long... mommy won't let me though. :(
  6. I don't like to be picked up. In order to do so you have to put your arm down and pat on the forearm to let me know you want to pick me up.  I will then crawl up and put my front paws on your forearm so you can scoop me up.
  7. I sleep four paws up! I take up more space than you can imagine for such a little girl.

I pass this award on to:

How to Make and Can Vanilla Pears

(Sorry... this isn't a post about Milo, Newby or Dixie... and they are mad...)

We have a HUGE pear tree which is producing more fruit than I nor the birds can consume.  So I looked around and found a delicious recipe.  I wanted to share with you.

This is my first canning of fruits so I was a bit nervous.  But I have to admit, right about now I'm thanking my great-grandmother, who raised me from an infant, for letting me watch her can stuff from the garden!

Vanilla Pears  (makes 7 pints and a little left over to enjoy right now with ice cream)
12 cups of pears, peeled, quartered and deseeded
9 cups of water
5 Tbsp of Vanilla extract
2 cups of sugar

Combine all the ingredients in a large pan and bring to a boil for 5 minutes.  If your pears are a bit under-ripe you can boil a couple extra minutes until al dente.

Then you water can these bad boys.

  1. Sanitize your jars. My dishwasher has a sanitize setting so I simply run them through the dishwasher while I'm preparing the stuff to can.
  2. Fill a small pan with water and put in your jar rings and jar seals. They do not need to boil, but you need to let sit in hot, non-boiling water, until ready to process your filled jars.
  3. Fill your canning pot full of water, at least enough to have 1-2" of water over your jars, and bring to a vigorous boil.  Remember to put the lid on your canner as it makes your water boil faster and more vigorously.
  4. Fill your jars with fruit -- use a jar funnel, its less messy -- packing the fruit down in and adding syrup until you have 1/2" of head space at the top of each jar.  Clean any spills off with a clean cloth.
  5. Place a jar seal on top of each jar and turn the jar ring around until just finger tight. Don't over tighten, you can do that after they have canned.
  6. After you have filled your jars, place them one by one in the boiling canning water.  Return to a hard boil and process in the canning water for 25 minutes.
  7. After 25 minutes carefully remove each jar, allow them a few minutes to cool down, then tighten the ring around the jar.
  8. A correctly processed jar will have no 'give' on the top.  You can press down and it doesn't pop back.  If any did not process correctly, place in the fridge and use within the week.
:) Great-Grandmom would be proud, eh?
